Hougang is a nostalgic place for me ! i stayed in Hougang during my teenage years, and we were eating lots of nice food in Hougang, including the Kway Chup along Hougang Ave 7 Hawker Centre before it was demolished. After we moved out of Hougang, I still used to fetch my parents to eat Hougang Lorong Ah Soo, Kovan Hawker, and buy vegetables at Ah Chiu shop. 我曾经在后港居住很多年，也跟随父母到处在后港附近一带吃吃吃美食。

(Ah Chiu 阿水 grocery shop is located at Blk 322 Hougang Avenue 7. That man is an Icon in Hougang!!! Long queues will form by customers with baskets of Vegetables, Meat, Fish. Ah Chiu 阿水 usually squat at one corner “Checkout Counter” of his shop, and i was always impressed by his speed mental calculation ! He can Count faster than a digital calculator !!! Besides his mental calculation power, he has got Super Memory too. There were hundreds and hundreds of items, vegetable, spices, and provision stuff varieties, he will nonchalantly recite his mental calculations to the customer, using one hand to pick up the vege/ item and place it on his weighing scale, then tell the customer the price per kilogram of item, and then subtotal of item by their weight. Ah Chiu 阿水 must be a Math Genius !!! And he could SQUAT there for many hours !!! And the best part my mum love is his small FREE gifts like chilli or spring onions to his regular customers! . 阿水Ah Chiu’s Wife would be the one collecting the money while the human calculator does his counting ! ).

The laksa gravy is potent, on the saltier side, but savoury

I always like to eat laksa with yellow noodles. Some like thick bee hoon. Which you prefer?

Hum is a must for me!

. Personally I will like the hum to be “not overcooked”. Other than the hum, everything is perfect for me.

One of the longest queue in this hawker centre

. But this stall operates two units with two cooking chefs, so the queue moves faster. If only one chef, the queue will be even longer.

Very Nice Crispy Fried fish without alot of batter! And they are placed in a small bowl, separated from the soup.

. Sliced Fish are fresh batang. If you want to try the fried fish & sliced fish combo, then order 黑白魚片汤 Fish Soup.

We ordered two 黑白魚片汤 Fish Soups :
i) Clear Soup with thick Bee Hoon.

ii) Soup with Milk with Rice.

I saw most ordering combo with the little bowl of fried fish. Some ordered Omega 鱼肚, Tom Yam fried fish, 三文鱼salmon fish soup!

Take note that they open at 11am. Be prepared to queue during peak lunch hour. When I left at 12pm, the queue is about 10-12pax.

. This stall just won the Mediacorp’s Foodie Choice for Best Oyster Omelette . Both are very experienced, they have been frying these for the past 34 years. And 18+ years in hougang 435A!

One of the nicest & affordable Cai Png in Hougang!

. This shop is “hidden” away from Main Road, so many are still not aware. Their price starts from $2 ( 1 meat 1 vege), $2.50 ( 1 meat 2 vege). Chicken wing $1.10.

Everything very nice, even the vege are so delicious ! . I enjoyed all of it, finished everything. You guess how much it cost?

Chicken wing at $1.10 per piece is a must order. I must say it is very well marinated, batter not too thick, so yummy that one piece feels not enough . Some ordered two for their meal.

Important : they accept Cash only (I think no paynow too).

I was here around 9.30am, queue is about 6-7pax They have about 12-16 seats outside the shop, not many. And still managed to find a seat.Most in the queue came here to tabao. By 10am, about 15pax in the queue.

Saw Chicken Rendang $4.50 on their main signage. So, I ordered. It comes with a rendang chicken drumstick, an egg, some vege and rice. Portion is big. Their Nasi Ayam Goreng looks good too.

I was walking past this shop and I could smell their braised sauce cooking. Wah, they have so many varieties of fishes and dishes for Teochew porridge!!! I tabao their braised duck rice back. Abit Expensive but the braise is good, duck meat is tender.

They have a few other branches in Singapore, 827 Tampines, 240 Tanjong Katong, 809 North Bridge Rd, 246 Upper Thomson.

Silky soft skinny Hor Fun, that is imported from Ipoh. I confirmed this with the owner. And the lady owner is from Ipoh.

Prawny broth with a sweet taste. Very clean and fresh prawns. Nice

. Now, you don’t have to travel all the way to Ipoh to eat traditional Ipoh Hor Fun.

The owners said they have been in Promenade @ Pelikat for 2 years. They just shift out to their current unit that is facing the road around May 2025, used to be at a smaller unit that is inside

Their current unit has got 3 tables and about 15seats, but it is bigger that their previous unit. So, maybe there is a queue during weekends.

Saw that they were pretty busy with online orders.

My wife birthday, googled breakfast cafe and found this lovely place that opens early and near Sengkang1.

Nice food & very friendly staff.

Ordered High Tea Set & Chicken Fajitas. The High Tea Set was not available on the breakfast menu, and the staff made an exception to do it for us. Originally it includes a piece of tiramisu, but it was not available in the morning, so they replaced it with a piece of brownies with our consent.

Fresh Fish. Thicker slices. Got tomatoes & tofu. Flavourful soup base. Always got a few pieces of hidden Hae bee 虾米 at the bottom.

at this coffeeshop, more fragrant. (some other place have very diluted kopi). This stall has been around for many years. Love their tomatoes, bitter gourd and bean curds. Sometimes I will add extra bitter gourd.

Earlier Visit: Small packet or cup at 30cents , Big Packet / Cup at 50 cents !!! Their small packet is what usually you will get when you packet your drink at other drink stall !! WOW !!! At 30cents per packet, this drink stall could be the cheapest drink stall in whole of Singapore !!!! The only one that could defy inflation!!! Guess they did it with volume of business.

Only 3 types of drinks : Soya Bean, Grass Jelly Drink And they have the nostalgic Bird Nest Drink !!! It doesn’t taste as good as the real bird nest but it is a taste of this “bird nest” drink will transport you 20-30years back in time! In the past, we used to have this “bird nest” drink peddlers on bicycles with the similar swallow signboards, selling drinks with a shredded agar-agar-like “bird nest”.

Used to frequent the Bee Hoon stall at Blk 322 when I was younger. Then my wife was pregnant 🫄 with my first baby (time flies…about 21years ago) , she craved for the economic fried bee hoon at Blk 322. Today I popped to check if the stall is still around…. The little bee hoon stall was replaced, so I went over to Blk 327 which is just minutes away.Glad to find this very nice char bee hoon. There was about 8 people in the queue. The lady stall owner looked very familiar. I asked if she is from 322 🤣. She told me last time she used to be at Blk 309..

Anyway, her fried bee hoon is very very nice! no wonder she has a queue of 8pax. Chilli is sedup too ! Think it is as good as the 322 bee hoon!

The fried bee Hoon alone with chilli 🌶️, is good enough, even if you don’t add other ingredients! Great comfort food. Some ordered her fried maggi mee.

This is definitely one of the nicest Vegetarian food in Hougang. Many varieties and most importantly yummy.

Went to this Vegetarian restaurant on the first day of 2022. Nice food, excellent service staff. Wide range of dishes:

They have individual Vegetarian Cze Cha dishes for one pax or family, Rojak, Satay and even Prata wrap!!! Peking “Duck”, Vinegar Shroom-Trotters, Vege “Meats”, Vege “Fish”….etc. Mala Fragrant Pot, Steamboats….

Well established, they even have a Ezbot robot

on wheels to deliver your dishes. Interesting

Braised Duck Noodle.

. The dark-coloured gravy sauce is the Soul of this dish. The meat soft and tender. The red chilli

with ikan billis looked really potent with bursting flavours. It is a must have.

If you eat the duck meat with the vinegary garlic chilli marinate, it offers another dimension to your taste buds.

This is definitely one of the stall that usually has the longest queue. They are also husband and wife team. The male stall holder has got very quick hands , the way he “PULL” his coffee is said to have elevated the aroma of his coffee !!! I LOVE TO WATCH HIS “KOPI-MAKING SHOW” while i am queueing. And the constant long queue guarantees that his coffee is always freshly brewed ( not left on the warmer ).

Used to sell Kopi O in small cups and big cups. Now they have only one regular size cup Only !

Hidden Gem. Japanese Fusion Mee Pok. This morning my wife recommended me a mee pok stall & coffeeshop at Blk 511 Hougang. I didn’t know this stall existed. She said their mee pok sauce is super “solid” !

We ordered Number one on the menu Japanese Fusion Mee Pok Dry. 2 bowls $7 each. 1 bowl miso sauce and 1 bowl shoyu.

I tried both. Personally I felt the one with miso sauce is more special. So if it’s your first time trying, you can order this Japanese Fusion Mee Pok or Mee Kia dry with Miso Sauce.

They also have the regular more affordable mushroom minced meat noodle at $5.

One woman show!!! Do try their Prawn noodle DRY VERSION too. Usually during weekends, the queue will be snaking around this corner stall.

This stall is just about 6-8km away from Punggol and Sengkang, and you can simply cycle about 25-35mins using our well establish park connectors PCN using OFO or Obike or your own bicycle.
