  1. Chomp Chomp & ABC Brickworks have the most Unique Names.

These 2 Hawker Centres were not named after any building / estate or historic area names.

Chomp-Chomp food centre

Chomp-Chomp food centre

Chomp Chomp Food Centre, which is located at 20 Kensington Park Road Singapore 557269, is a key landmark in Serangoon Gardens famed for its tasty local hawker food such as Barbecued Sting Ray, Satay, Barbecued Chicken Wings, Char Kway Teow, Oyster Omelette, Satay Beehoon, Hokkien Prawn Noodle and many more. (Total : 36 Cooked Food Stalls).

It was rumoured that name of Chomp Chomp Food Centre was actually derived from the sound of frenzied eating as patrons “chomp” down tasty food at this hawker centre! However, Others say its catchy name was not linked to food sound, but rather from the Hokkein / Teochew pronounciation to Chinese words(忠忠)Zhong Zhong which meaning loyalty.

ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre is situated at Blk 6 Jalan Bukit Merah Singapore 150006. (Total: 96 Cooked Food Stalls)

Some say “ABC Brickworks” was named in memory of Alexandra Brickworks Company, previously sited at Alexandra Road.

But Most say that name of ABC Brickworks Market was derived from the shortname of Archipelago Brewery Company (First Commercial Brewery in Singapore established in 1931), whose former site is just a stone throw.

Archipelago Brewery Company was previously located at 370 Alexandra Road Singapore 159953 (now occupied by AnchorPoint Shopping Centre), and possibly a very prominent landmark at junction of Alexandra Road and Jalan Bukit Merah in the past.

(Some jokingly said ABC Brickworks was then a popular food place to drink ABC Extra Stout. (btw, ABC extra Stout is not a product by Archipelago Brewery Company !)

As ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre, as known as “ABC Market” is “hidden” away from main road ( Jalan Bukit Merah ), many would have miss it unless you are living or working in the vicinity. There are many food GEMs which are constantly written by numerous food bloggers. Noteworthy MUST TRY food are as follows;

Handmade Char Siew Bao @ Bao Zi (飽仔),

Roasted Char Siew @ Fatty Cheong (肥仔样)

Yong Kee Famous Fishball Noodle (榮記馳名魚圓面)

Tiong Bahru Yi Sheng Hokkien Fried Prawn Mee (中峇魯益生炒福建蝦面)
